AVID MCPHAIL grew up in Massachusetts and travelled with a band before enrolling in the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. He discovered a love for children's books while working as a shipping clerk for a book clearinghouse and published his first, The Bear's Toothache in 1972. Since then he has written and/or illustrated more than 50 books. He lives in New Hampshire, USA.
